We had a great opening week at KBIA and will be starting our second week off with a bang, holding classes as usual on Monday and celebrating the 4th of July with lots of American pride – remember to wear some red, white, and blue! Also this week we will be hosting the MIRC sailing race, campfire & beach BBQ night, open sail & kayak, and much more.
Our Monday Night Movie time has been moved to 6-8 PM, so that everyone can partake in some spectacular beach fireworks at dusk, roughly 9:15 PM. The fireworks are set off between Gooch’s and Middle beaches, and they look great from Mother’s Beach and the KBIA area as well! Happy Independence Day from all of us at KBIA.

Flying the Grand Ol’ Flag
KBIA’s yacht club flagpole
With pride, we fly our colors everyday: the American flag, the Canadian Flag for our visiting friends, the State of Maine flag, and the KBIA burgee.
KBIA has a “yacht club flagpole,” different from a traditional flagpole, so that means the American flag flies as it would on a ship. Consistent with U.S. flag etiquette, the national ensign flies on the gaff, which represents the stern of a boat and the position of command and honor.

5k Road Race Sunday, July 10th
Free t-shirts to the first 150 pre-registered!
We are gearing up for the 25th annual “A Day at the Beach” 5K and 1K Kids Fun Run. Please join us and register today!
We have free tech t-shirts for the first 150 pre-registered participants. The start and finish line is on Lord’s Point Road, with the course winding through seaside neighborhoods, finishing along Beach Avenue and the sparkling Atlantic.
To successfully execute this community race, we will need a host of volunteers. We will need help on race day registering runners and answering questions as well as helping out on the roads and in the runners chute at the finish line. Volunteers are also needed on Friday, July 8th to help with packet pick-up distribution. The first 20 volunteers will get a free “volunteer” tech shirt as our thank you. We can’t do it without you. The KBIA Store is Open!
Come take a gander through the KBIA store, located just across from the office in Strong Cottage and open during office hours. We have so many items in stock including KBIA tumblers to keep your beverages cool, waterbottles for sports activities, and diner mugs for your morning coffee.
For those long beach days we have plenty of KBIA beach towels, and even a convenient beach blanket that rolls up neatly with a handy handle! T-shirts and hats for warm summer days, sweatshirts and fleece jackets for cool beachfire nights, many styles and sizes.
Want to show your KBIA pride on the road? We have car magnets for that! How about a burlap “Kennebunk Beach 04043” or “KBIA Est. 1910” bag, perfect for mornings at the beach and an afternoon walk into town. We love showing our KBIA pride!

MIRC Sailing Race

Wednesday, July 6th, KBIA has the honor of hosting the second MIRC sailing race of the season, as part of a series that occurs at rotating clubs each week. It is a fun day to come out and see all the boats out on the water. We hope to see you there…perhaps in some KBIA gear from our store to cheer on our teams!

MONDAY MOVIE NIGHT: “Despicable Me,” Rated PG, 6 to 8 PM. $7. (Ages 7-12) **Please note the movie time has been changed from 7-9PM to 6-8PM, to account for the 4th of July fireworks scheduled at dusk!
TUESDAY TWEEN NIGHT: Mini Golf & Ice Cream. 6 to 8 PM. $26. (Ages 11-12)
WEDNESDAY MOVIE NIGHT: “Mulan,” Rated G, 7 to 9 PM. $7. (Ages 4-10)
THURSDAY TEEN NIGHT: Get Air Trampoline Park & Pizza, Portland. Meet at KBIA, 6 to 9 PM. Must fill out an online waiver form in advance. $26. (Ages 13+)
*Please preregister for all the above events at the office so we may accurately plan for transportation and/or admission fees.
**Registration for movie night is limited to 55 children, and registration for movie night at the office closes at 4PM the day of the movie or when we reach capacity. Please be advised we almost always reach capacity!
