A Note from KBIA President

Greetings All,

It is hard to believe that in a couple of short weeks classes will begin at KBIA!

I’m happy to report that unlike the devastating winter the year prior, we were very fortunate to come through last winter virtually unscathed. The uneventul winter helped us to complete the work needed on the new sea wall and it came out beautifully. Make sure to stop by next time you are in the area and have a look for yourself.
The bathroom renovations at Smith House are well underway and, while we were delayed a bit by permitting issues, we are confident that they will be up and running for opening day!

However, the mild winter did not come without some sad news.  Two long time KBIA member families lost loved ones.

Thomas “Tommy” Haight died unexpectedly in late February. Tommy was a wonderful man and his love of Kennebunk Beach and KBIA are unmatched. He was a devoted husband and father who loved and lived life to its fullest. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Tom is survived by his wife of 45 years Kathy, daughter Emily and her husband Nick, and his brother David.

In early March, Matt Fiorello, 36, a former KBIA camper, counselor and sailing instructor, was tragically killed in a small engine plane crash in Florida. Matt was an attorney for Peterson Bernard, and he and other members of the firm were flying to a meeting at the time of the crash. Matt is survived by his wife Rachel, daughters London (5) and Arden (2), parents Tony and Kathi, and brothers Michael and Danny. Matt and his family have been life-long members and supporters of KBIA. He was a tremendous father, husband and son and he will be forever missed.

We extend our sympathy and prayers to both families at this difficult time.

In other news, the Executive Director search is progressing very nicely. The search committee has narrowed down the list of candidates after the first round of interviews and will be conducting second interviews with a select number of applicants shortly.  The committee expects to complete the process and hire a new ED by early July. The job posting will remain open on the KBIA website until June 15th, so if you or anyone you know is interested in the position please visit [email protected] ASAP.

Martin reports that both membership and program revenue are pacing ahead of last year, so all looks on schedule for another great summer at KBIA!

I look forward to seeing you all at the beach real soon.

Warm Regards

JB
