KBIA Summer Traditions

What a weekend of celebrations! On Saturday, we started the day off with our July Watersports, Awards & BBQ, where handing out ribbons and wedges to many smiling and encouraged children is our most meaningful tradition.

Our annual Seaside Celebration on Saturday night turned out to be a beautiful night despite the heat earlier in the day. We had a great turnout and sprinkled in a few surprises.

July Award Winners
Forever a part of KBIA history

We have many children here who excel in their areas of special interest, and we honored them at Saturday’s awards ceremony with KBIA “wedges.”  For children we saw go “above and beyond,” we awarded the traditional silver-ware that has a permanent home in our office.  Their names will be engraved, forever a part of our KBIA history.  This year’s July award-winners include:
  •  Zander Karakhanian for the Feldman Art Award
  •  Emillee Davis for the Sisters Gerald & Vincent Art Award
  •  Zander Karakhanian for the Keeper of the Cove Award
  •  TJ Walsh for the Eagle Rock Yacht Club Friendship Cup
  •  Ryan Turnbull for the Griswald Cup Award for tennis staff
  •  Zoe Lament for the Cornelia C. Smith Swimming Award for staff

*All KBIA children receive participant ribbons.  If you did not pick them up after the awards, and would like to do so, please check the office.  We also have a number of “wedges,” or plaques for our award-winners not present on Saturday!

Seaside Celebration
Thank You

Always a fun celebration by the cove, this night was extra special for me. I’m honored for the recognition by the Board of Directors, and all who attended. My time at KBIA has always been making sure we run a smooth and successful program for the children, and most of all — that we have fun!

Thank you to all participants of the silent auction – winners of the pool party, bonfire BBQ, and parking spot will be contacted by office staff. A big thank you to the folks that donated to scholarships.  If you missed the Seaside and still want to donate, you can still do so by contacting the office at [email protected]. Donations to the KBIA scholarship fund are gratefully accepted and appreciated.

Volunteer Board
Get involved!

The KBIA Board of Directors is a purely volunteer run organization.  The Board is always looking for people who are interested in becoming more involved, whether by working on a committee or by sitting on the Board itself.  Please contact the office (who will forward your interest along to the appropriate committee of the Board), if you would like to nominate yourself or someone else, join a committee, or simply want to learn more about the different opportunities available.

Sailing for a great cause
10th Annual Reid Sacco Family Regatta

Honoring a longtime KBIA student and instructor who lost his battle with sarcoma at the young age of 20 in 2005, the Reid Sacco Family Regatta holds a special place in our hearts.

Sailors & spectators are invited:
Saturday, August 3
12PM Skipper Meeting
12:30PM Sailing

Interested participants should register in the office to reserve a KBIA boat or bring their own boat to launch between 285 and 292 Beach Avenue.  Due to the shallow nature of the cove, even at high tide, sailors should use an Opti, Laser, or Chickadee watercraft.

A $10 suggested donation per sailor will benefit the Reid Sacco Foundation.  For information on the Reid Sacco Foundation, visit www.cancerinyoungadults.org/about-the-alliance/.

No Swimming in the KBIA Cove
Safety First!
Article ImageThat cool, beautiful water in the cove is so enticing! Unfortunately, we cannot allow swimming in the cove in front of KBIA. With no lifeguards on duty, and with many sailing/boating activities (including powerboating) happening, we want to be able to keep everyone safe. Luckily, we have the ocean on the other side of the KBIA playground for the enjoyment of all.
