Week 3 Brings More Fun!

We are rolling through Week 2 and have enjoyed seeing some of you for our virtual classes and virtual experience nights. This week also started up on-site classes, which has been a big milestone for us this summer, with lots of behind the scenes coordination and lots of excitement. We have more fun coming our way going into Week 3, and we hope you’ll join us!

We are SO excited to announce that we will now be offering Golf classes starting July 13! On-site Tennis classes will also be starting up on July 6 at Edgcomb. Golf and Tennis classes are offered with reduced class sizes in compliance with our current guidelines. Registration is now open and our onsite classes document (located here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tzGhKSW7g4Xd-6XWg05M801IX-AeBOlY/view?usp=sharing) has been updated to include golf offerings.

All of the Week 3 virtual classes and nighttime experiences will be shared to current members via email by the end of this week. Log on to the Zoom classes through the links posted in the Google Doc (updated every Thursday for the following week) and catch up on classes you missed on our KBIA Virtual Community Programming Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/KBIAvirtualcommunity/) or KBIA CIT Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/KBIACITgroup/).

A reminder that even if you don’t participate in the daytime classes, we will have nighttime experiences. Check out the lineup for week 3 here:

If you have joined us for the daytime virtual classes, we would love to hear your feedback! This may determine whether or not we continue these classes further into the summer, so please take 4 minutes of your time to complete the following survey:

With all the new changes this summer, why not make some improvements along the way? We have a new look to our KBIA website! The website is mobile viewing friendly, and more user friendly in general. Things are pretty much in the same place, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding the usual forms, links, etc.  We hope you love it as much as we do!

The KBIA playground is now open to the public. We ask that you follow CDC guidelines to keep yourself and those around you safe and healthy if you choose to visit.

Need a babysitter to bring your kids to the playground? Or just give you time to relax and your kids a bit of entertainment? We have a list of amazing KBIA counselors who are available for your babysitting needs. Please contact the KBIA office and we’ll send you the list: [email protected] or 207-967-2180.

And please do stop by sometime and say hello. I’d love to see you whether we are meeting for the first time or not!

As always, let us know if you have questions. We are in the office from 9am-4pm every Monday-Friday now and we can do business through the window on the porch!

Best,

Mimi Fox
Executive Director

Week 2 Virtual and On-site Classes Coming Up!

This week has been exciting! There has been a good amount of engagement on our virtual classes – I’m thrilled that people near and far are getting to experience our KBIA community, even if it is in a non-traditional way!

The virtual classes have been exciting but we have also been hard at work processing waterfront requests – emails have been going out in the order requests were received to confirm scheduled times – so be on the lookout for emails from Lorraine ([email protected]).

We have a few new things to share this week including an UPDATE to our waterfront registration policy and a new program we have been able to add with reduced class sizes in compliance with our current guidelines.

We are proud to share that we have developed a plan with our partners at Edgcomb to offer Tennis starting on July 6 (Week 3). We will be offering both private lessons and multi-household tennis classes for members (with limited enrollment due to current guidelines). Registration is now open and our onsite classes document (located here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tzGhKSW7g4Xd-6XWg05M801IX-AeBOlY/view?usp=sharing) has been updated to include tennis offerings.

Additionally, we have been approved to start golf classes again! Be on the lookout for more details on dates and times available – we will be sending that out next week!

All of the Week 2 virtual classes and nighttime experiences have been shared to current members via email – be sure to reach out to us if you did not receive the email this morning!

Check out the lineup for week 2 here:

On site programming will be starting as of July 1! The first class – Yoga on the beach for adults! We will offer two different classes – Wednesdays and Fridays at 7am (each class is $15). Any member who joins the class and signs up in advance will be guaranteed a spot! Email [email protected] to secure your spot today!

Membership Deadline Extended!

We wanted to reach out and say thank you to everyone in our community. It’s no secret that these last few months have been straining but we are so fortunate to have our KBIA community working hard to remain connected in the midst of it all. Virtual classes began yesterday, and we have been having a lot of fun getting creative so that we can reach everyone this summer, even if it’s not the way we have done in the past. We have received incredibly generous support through our social media pages, from new members and returning ones as well. Some members have elected to join at higher membership levels to help us through this time and some have chosen to donate the amount they would have spent in on-site classes. This generosity is awe-inspiring and we are so incredibly grateful.

As we are officially starting on-site classes on July 1 we have EXTENDED the deadline to join as a member to receive the early registration access for next year (2021). If you join by JULY 1 then you will not only receive all access to virtual classes and access to registration for on-site offerings but you will also get early access to KBIA 2021 summer registration – regular registrations begin April 15, 2021 but join now and get access on April 1, 2021! If you are not a member yet then you can sign up online here: https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/KennebunkBeachImprovementAs/membership.html

We have received questions on how members of the community can continue to support KBIA so we have put together a handy sheet (below) to share with you that outlines a few ways that would help. Signing up for classes and offerings on-site are an obvious way and we hope to have more programming options to share as the summer continues to move along. In the interim, we really want to thank you. Your belief and support are what will get us through this time and we are so thankful for YOU!

Best,
John Bauman (KBIA Board President) and Mimi Fox (Executive Director)

**Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see if you need to gather any items to get you ready for the class!

Even if you don’t join us for digital classes, we hope to see you virtually for our nighttime experiences – details below!

We are hard at work in the office to register interested families in onsite offerings – both classes and waterfront sessions. We have been overwhelmed with the support and understanding from our members for us during this challenging summer and we are working hard to make sure everything we offer is both safe and fun!

This is a reminder that this year parents or babysitters who are with your child are welcome to attend onsite classes with them this year!

Remember – if you haven’t already joined as a member you can still do so by June 22 and get access to all our virtual programming, onsite classes, AND receive early access to registration next year. To join please visit: https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/KennebunkBeachImprovementAs/membership.html

Please reach out if you have questions – we look forward to hearing from you as we begin our virtual community of classes and experiences. Be on the lookout as we hope to have details on tennis and golf soon!

Best,

Mimi Fox

Upon completion of this form, the Office will be in touch to schedule you. Requests are completed on a first come, first served and limited to TWO classes per week for initial sign ups. If you would like to be on a waitlist for additional sessions, as they become available, we will contact you starting Wednesday the week prior to the session starting the following week (i.e., July 1 for sessions beginning July 6).

For EVERY class that you sign up for this summer, we are requiring participants to fill out this waiver form. It must be completed EVERY MORNING to participate. If you do not fill it out, you will not be able to participate in any activity at KBIA.

We Remember David McConnell

Dear Members of KBIA,

It is with great sadness that I inform you that Dave “Doc” McConnell passed away last Sunday at the age of 83. Dave was a fixture at KBIA for 34 years. First, he was our tennis instructor and then took over the role of Executive Director in 1973 until he retired in 2006. Dave was also the Headmaster of Kennebunk High School from 1990 to 2001. After his long tenure at KBIA, Dave worked for the Portland Sea Dogs and could always be seen in the crowd talking with friends and fans alike.

I have known Dave all my life and he will be remembered as a man with tremendous kindness, dedication, and never-ending enthusiasm for everything he did and the countless people he touched over his life span.

He was one of the foremost reasons that our beloved KBIA continues to thrive in its 110th year, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Please join me in sending our deepest sympathy and prayers to the entire McConnell family.

Sincerely,

John Bauman
President of the KBIA Board of Directors

KBIA’s 2020 Summer is just around the corner!

While I welcome the opportunity to write to you once again about this summer, I would remiss if I did not share that this week has been challenging. I know I am not the only one who feels this way. While it has been a struggle for many of us to find new and safer ways of operating amid a pandemic, it is even MORE heartbreaking to see injustices ripping through communities across America, highlighting racial divides. I do not claim to be an authority on how to address these issues, but I do know that it will take people of all races and backgrounds to stand in support of marginalized groups in order to make progress against injustice and racism.

At KBIA, it is part of our mission to be inclusive and to provide a safe and supportive environment for all children and families. You have my word that we will continue to do this. We are also here to listen – we don’t have all the answers and we shouldn’t. We need voices from our community to give feedback on how we can continue to do better so we can continue to live our mission and serve everyone. It is work and I am ready to work alongside all of you.

Today, I am proud to share our revised on-site programming with all of you – these classes will begin on July 1st – and registration for these classes starts TODAY (June 5)! They will all be socially distant and you will need to bring your own face covering to participate in them. Additionally, there is a handy graphic on how to go about registering for these classes – if at any time you have questions, just reach out to our Program Administrator Lorraine at [email protected]. She is AMAZING and will be able to help you with all your registration needs. I have been receiving a lot of emails with similar questions, so we even created a FAQ sheet for you. If you still have questions that aren’t answered there then please reach out! I’m more than happy to talk with you. You can find these documents in the Membership & Registration page of our website.

We have done an enormous amount of work to make this 2020 summer a reality, as shown in this graphic:

This reflects the work of our staff and Board and it is incredible to be part of such an amazing team, ready to create responsive programming to help our community come together.

As a reminder – everyone who joins as a member BEFORE June 22 will get early access to registration next year. Registration will open on April 15, 2021 but if you sign up this year before June 22 then you will receive access to registration a full TWO WEEKS EARLY for next year. That happens to be April 1, 2021, but I assure you (as I did before) this is NO joke. Here is the link to join (if you haven’t already):

https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/KennebunkBeachImprovementAs/membership.html

Speaking of community – our digital community, complete with nighttime “events” and daytime classes (synchronous and asynchronous) will launch on June 22. To gain access to this for NO ADDITIONAL COST all you have to do is become a member. We will pilot the daytime classes from June 22-July 10 and if you love it then we will continue it. The nighttime experiences will continue all summer long! The programming for our first week of “nights” will be shared on June 15th. The schedule – by age band – for our digital classes can be found below.

I want to thank you for being so supportive of KBIA. I have received so many emails from members – offering ideas, words of support, and kindness. I am lucky to be a part of this organization and I am grateful for all the good will that we will continue to put into the world.

 Best,

 Mimi Fox
